Middle School
Using such criteria as the record of academic achievement, standardized test scores, social and emotional adjustment, and the judgment of teachers and guidance counselors, 6th, 7th and 8th graders are grouped by achievement levels. All 7th and 8th grade students take the same basic program of studies: English, social studies, science, mathematics, foreign language, music and physical education. By the end of the 8th grade, they will have had courses in art, home and careers, technology and health mandated by the New York State Educational Department. Sixth grade students receive instruction in all the areas previously mentioned. Academically talented students may be accelerated in mathematics, science and foreign language. Intramurals, interscholastic sports and a varied program of Co-curricular activities including clubs, service organizations and student government help to c omplement the middle school's emphasis on academic enrichment and the exploration of the early adolescent's readiness for growth responsibility. |
